What to wear to family Photos {Logan Utah Photographer}

As A photographer I am always asked, "What should we wear for our pictures." Well, I am going to start answering that question for you all. The idea is so have a What to wear or Where to shoot Wednesday. Today is my 1st of these posts! I am going to start off by giving some Tips on what to wear for family photos.
#1. Pic a color pallet. Work off of that color pallet. It really gives you a good place to start. If you cant decide on a color pallet it may help to find a piece of clothing that you MUST have in your pics. Either for you or one your kids. Then base your other pieces of clothing around that color pallet. Here are a few ideas as far as color pallets go. Work off of that color pallet. It really gives you a good place to start. If you cant decide on a color pallet it may help to find a piece of clothing that you MUST have in your pics. Either for you or one your kids. Then base your other pieces of clothing around that color pallet.

#2. Think simple. After you have found your colors, move on to picking out the outfits! BUT keep it simple, not simple as in no jewelry, scarfs ribbons or ties (see #3) but not too many patterns. Tecture is okay, but too much pattern can be distracting. If you MUST have pattern then keep it for the  youngest of the group, or smallest. Putting pattern on the baby or toddler can actually help bring focus to them when other wise they may get lost in the "crowd". Also try not to throw every color of the color pallet on 1 person.

 #4. Accessories (scarfs, earrings, bracelets necklaces, bows headbands, vest ties, belts, etc) These are not only okay, but AWESOME! Go ahead and add simple ^ layers. Add a cardigan or a vest, through scarf. A lot of the time I recommend that my clients wear the FREE colors (black, white, gray cream, or brown) as a base color then throw in POPS of the accent colors in your color pallet with accessories. Try a tie for Dad, a vest for son, a bow for daughter and a chunky necklace for you.

 #5. Organized chaos. If mom is wearing grey as her main color, have dad wear a different color from the pallet, then the son or daughter can match moms color. Try to avoid having all the grown ups in one color and all the kids in one color. Also try to avoide everybody wearing the SAME THING! You can create the feel of "matching" even without all wearing Kaki pants and a navy blue collard shirt.
You want people to look at your picture and say "Man, that looks awesome!" Not "Man they are all wearing the same thing."
