Photographer in Logan Utah with What to wear/where to shoot Wednesdays.
I have to be honest I was a bit hesitant to write a post about where to shoot. Why you may ask, well, because I am a firm believer that amazing images can come from anywhere! The location is NOT the most important thing! The subjects are! Even an amazing outfit is FAR more important in my mind. But a cool location can set the mood of a picture. So without further blabbering... Here are some thoughts about WHERE To shoot!!Now this post isn't about sharing specific locations but it is more about the type of location. A specific "where so shoot" on locations will be given in the next few weeks :)
I am a photographer in Logan Utah, so half of my photography is done in winter, or during VERY cold times. There isn't a lot of color during those times of year. So, I am not going to be going to an outdoor flower garden, or rolling green hills. Even the typical "wheat field" just doesn't do it for me during winter.
Winter: IF there is snow everywhere, try going somewhere with pine trees because they stay green even in the snow! Go somewhere with trees that have cool tree trunks, or a colorful building, or even do an indoor shoot, you can get some great shots in a studio if you have the right photographer. Try a more industrial type shot, find some cool buildings, where you don't have to worry about trees or flowers at all!
Spring: Now this is the season you may go to an outdoor garden, or an tree orchard, or even those rolling green hills!
Summer: This is a GREAT time for pictures! You can go about anywhere and have some fun shots! I like to do a look over the city in summer, it is usually warm enough to do later night shoots, and the sky is more clear in the summer time than in winter.
Fall: Do even have to say anything? Fall is great for fall colors! The leaves around here are AWESOME in the fall! Take advantage of that short season!
2. What kind of pictures are you wanting?
As a photographer if there is one battle I fight it would be WHERE TO SHOOT! A lot of clients want pictures done but have NO idea where to go. I usually ask "what kind of setting do you want?"
Industrial?
Trees?
Mountains?
Old buildings/barns/cars?
Bridges?
Fields?
Take a minute to think about what you are wanting, what kind of feel are you trying to convey?

Do you have a neat house? A cool porch? A cute neighborhood? Does your grandma have a cute neighborhood? Try to think about simple things you see everyday. Get creative! I would love to do a session on the porch of somebodies house! I could get creative and it is more personable! Do you have a park around the corner that would be a fun backdrop?
4.Go with a theme, but don't be afraid to step away from a theme!
If you are a ballarena, yes doing some pictures in a studio would be AWESOME!! Are you a guitarist? Doing some pictures on stage would be great! But why not take those fun ideas and mesh them with something a little different?
Up next for what to wear/where to shoot Wednesday? What to wear for ENGAGEMETS!
