I look at their strengths
Did you know I talk with EACH of my brides before I book my second shooters (SS)'s? Why? Because I want to get a second shooter that will fit me, and my brides needs and wants best. If candid shots are really important to my bride, I go with a SS that I believe can capture those candid moments with precision and skill. If detail shots are important to my bride, I find a SS with that skill.
I review each of my second shooters portfolios in detail and make note of what I think their strong points are. After I have worked with them I make note again.
I look at their Professionalism
I expect each my SS to be professional. I expect them to dress professionally, speak professionally and work professionally. When they are at a wedding or even with me they are representing Developing Bliss Photography. I expect them to not promote their own business, and to direct questions and inquires to me.
I look at how WE mesh
When contemplating a who to choose as a SS I like to do a bit of snooping and see if I feel we would work well together. Most event and weddings I hire a second shooter for are several hours. We often work close and travel together. Are they workable? Is the travel going to awkward? Will they mesh with my clients?
Photo gear
I don't have too many specific requirements on gear. A flash of some sort is important, a DSLR camera (duh) and a few lenses.
What I expect?
As stated before I expect my second shooters to be professional, have their own gear, represent Developing Bliss Photography, and have a workable personality. Here are a few other rules I have for my second shooters
*Show up ON TIME (I have a slight pet peeve of people being tardy)
*Hand their memory cards off to me at the end of the event. (Don't worry I will return them ;)
*Follow basic instructions
*Be willing to be flexible about duties (hold lighting if needed, change positions, read my mind (haha not really but that would be SWEET!)
*The SS is asked to not post any of their shots from the event until I have given the client their images.
*They are required to sign my SS contract.
*They are required to sign my SS contract.
I am always looking to add to my list of possible second shooter. If you are interested emails me with your interest and a portfolio link! :)
nice
